A key advantage of the InvivO₂ 400 compared with a conventional incubator is the ability to perform the entire cell-culture workflow within the same controlled physiological atmosphere. Cells can be incubated, observed, fed, manipulated or prepared for analysis without repeated exposure to laboratory oxygen concentrations. This is particularly important when studying cellular processes that are sensitive to relatively small changes in O₂ concentration.
Independent O₂ and CO₂ control enables researchers to establish physiological normoxia, hypoxia or other user-defined atmospheres. Baker highlights applications where conditions found in different tissues, including blood vessels and lung tissue, need to be reproduced, making the system suitable for research involving cancer, stem cells, metabolism, hypoxia, immunology, neuroscience, cardiovascular research and drug development.
The 26 L intelligent interlock enables materials to be introduced or removed without directly opening the main chamber and automatically adjusts its oxygen concentration to match the main workspace. For rapid transfer of individual culture plates, the platform can also use the SPES™ – Single Plate Entry System.
The InvivO₂ 400 chamber is also large enough to integrate compact analytical equipment, including small digital microscopy systems, enabling observation and data acquisition without removing cells from their experimental environment. Internal electrical outlets and cable-management options are available to facilitate equipment integration.
